# O que é Lastro?

No contexto da [bancarização](https://giro.tech/bancarizacao-varejo/), o Lastro refere-se a qualquer documento que comprove a formalização de um ativo ou recebível, como a [CCB](https://giro.tech/o-que-e-ccb/) (Cédula de Crédito Bancário) assinada em formato físico ou digital, uma NF (Nota Fiscal) ou duplicata.

Desse modo, o Lastro serve como garantia da existência e validade do recebível. Assim, ele é importante para dar mais credibilidade às [operações de crédito](https://giro.tech/operacao-de-credito/).

Além de trazer maior segurança ao investidor, e proporcionar maior confiança no [mercado de crédito](https://giro.tech/mercado-de-credito/), o lastro também pode ser utilizado para cobrir perdas, o que é importante para reduzir os riscos de inadimplência.
